Low carbon electricity
The United States is among the world's most dynamic renewable energy markets. We are developing an integrated portfolio combining 25 GW of operated and non-operated solar and wind projects, storage and trading—making us one of the top five U.S. renewable energy players.
Gas-fired power plants complement our solar and wind energy assets to compensate for the intermittent nature of renewable energy production. In 2024, TotalEnergies completed the acquisition of three gas-fired power plants from TexGen, with a total capacity of 1.5 GW of flexible power, to meet the growing electricity demand in Texas, the nation’s second largest electricity market.
These projects contribute to TotalEnergies’ global target of increasing our electricity production to more than 100 TWh by 2030. This approach is part of our balanced multi-energy strategy. We are replicating our integrated Oil & Gas model across the electricity value chain by developing a differentiated, cost-effective model: Integrated Power.
Wind
TotalEnergies entered the offshore wind energy sector in the United States in 2022 with the acquisition of two maritime leases in the New York Bight and Carolina Long Bay to develop enough clean power to cover the needs of 1.3 million U.S. homes:
- the Attentive Energy projects in New York and New Jersey with a production capacity of more than 3 GW and commissioning scheduled for 2029;
- the Carolina Long Bay project, with a production capacity of 1 GW, operational from 2031.

Solar
The Inflation Reduction Act and strategic acquisitions have allowed TotalEnergies to accelerate the deployment of its solar activities in the United States, which is home to a quarter of our global renewable power generation portfolio.
TotalEnergies is building an extensive portfolio of solar and battery storage projects across the country. We are committed to allocating one gigawatt of this renewable energy to cover the entire electricity consumption of our petrochemical sites in the U.S., including the Port Arthur Platform and the La Porte Plant, in Texas, and Carville Plant in Louisiana.
Our portfolio includes 8 GW of industrial-scale solar power production and battery storage – in operation or under development – following the purchase of projects from SunChase Power, the acquisition of Core Solar and of 50% of Clearway Energy, and our partnership with Hanwha Energy.
Our major operated solar sites include Myrtle Solar (380 MW) and Danish Fields (720 MW). Both sites are located outside of Houston, Texas, and equipped with battery storage systems.

Natural gas and biogas
In the United States, we are an integrated player in the liquefied natural gas value chain, key for the energy transition. At the same time, we are partnering with local biogas players to develop this renewable, low-carbon energy.
TotalEnergies, the leading exporter of American LNG
In the United States, TotalEnergies is a leader in natural gas liquefaction, active in:
- Louisiana, through its 16.6% stake in the Cameron LNG plant;
- Texas, through the development of the Rio Grande LNG project;
- via purchasing contracts with key terminals such as Sabine Pass LNG, Freeport LNG and Corpus Christi LNG.
TotalEnergies has been the leading exporter of U.S. LNG since 2021, shipping more than 10 million tons annually to the rest of the world, which has enabled us to contribute to the energy supply of Europe in times of natural gas market disruptions.
In Baja California, TotalEnergies has a 16.6% stake in the Energia Costa Azul project. Once completed, TotalEnergies will be able to ship out 1.7 million tons from this site, without having to go through the Panama Canal to reach Asian markets, which will reduce shipping costs and carbon footprint.
In 2023, TotalEnergies announced that it was joining forces with GIP and NextDecade to participate in the Rio Grande LNG natural gas liquefaction plant in Texas, raising our Company’s estimated total U.S. LNG export capacity to more than 15 million tons by 2030.

Natural gas
In Fort Worth, Texas, TotalEnergies operates in the Barnett Shale Gas Play, where the Company is implementing its global commitment to reduce methane emissions by 80% by 2030 compared with 2020.
In 2024, we signed two agreements with Lewis Energy Group to acquire non-operated gas assets in the Eagle Ford Basin of South Texas:
- a 20% interest in the Dorado exploration permits operated by EOG Resources (80%);
- a 45% interest in producing dry gas assets owned and operated by Lewis Energy Group.
Biogas
TotalEnergies is developing biomethane production in the United States. Since 2021, we have been working with Clean Energy in the United States to meet the growing demand for renewable natural gas in vehicle fleets. We provide our expertise in the production of biomethane at the Friona, Texas site—which is then distributed by Clean Energy through its retail network of service stations.
We also partnered with Vanguard Renewables, a U.S. leader in farm-based organics-to-renewable natural gas production to jointly develop, build, and operate farm-based renewable natural gas (RNG) projects across the country.

Onshore and offshore activities
TotalEnergies has been active in the Gulf of Mexico for decades, bringing its worldwide expertise in deep offshore developments to a portfolio of non-operated oil assets. TotalEnergies has a close collaboration with Chevron and owns interests in four offshore assets operated by them – the Jack, Tahiti and Anchor fields, which are producing, and the Ballymore project, which is expected to come online in 2025. These investments fit with our Company's strategy of focusing on oil projects with lower breakeven and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
As a major downstream player in the U.S., we bring value along the whole refining and petrochemical chain of production. Our investments lead the way to clean and affordable fuels and polymers. Our three main downstream sites are: the Port Arthur Platform and La Porte Polypropylene Plant & Technology Center, both in Texas; and Carville Plant in Louisiana.

Decarbonization
TotalEnergies is carrying out projects to decarbonize its activities in the United States, including a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project for Cameron LNG and the development with Qnergy of an innovative technology aiming to eliminate up to 98% of methane emissions from our Barnett natural gas field operations in North Texas.
In March 2024, we signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Talos Low Carbon Solutions (TLCS), an early-mover U.S. company focused on carbon capture and storage. This transaction allows us to enter the Bayou Bend project, a carbon transportation and storage solution for industrial emitters located in the Houston Ship Channel and Beaumont – Port Arthur region, one of the largest industrial corridors in the United States. Comprising licenses dedicated to CO2 storage, offshore and onshore, covering about 600 km2, it could enable the storage of several hundred million tons of CO2. Thanks to its location, its size and favorable geological characteristics, Bayou Bend is a world-class opportunity for the development of the CCS business.
