Road Safety: A Priority for Total

05/19/2021

The sixth United Nations Global Road Safety Week is taking place from May 17 to 21, 2021. At Total, safety is more than just a priority, it is a value that drives us every day. Road safety has become a particularly important issue – and it is everyone’s responsibility.

With more than 700 million kilometers traveled every year, road safety is a priority for our Group.

In recent years, we have focused our efforts on training and following up on drivers, monitoring and supporting transporters, and strengthening our technical requirements for equipment.

Our transporter inspection program, being led by our Marketing & Services business segment in Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, has helped reduce the number of serious road accidents.

The Group also regularly deploys #SafeDriver campaigns to raise awareness of risks on the road and to remind motorists of the basic rules of driving and the importance of obeying them. These campaigns are aimed at all Total and contractor employees.

The actions taken helped reduce the number of serious accidents by 40% between 2016 and 2020.
