Decarbonization: overview of TotalEnergies’ actions

11/10/2022

The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) takes place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from November 6 to 18.

November 11 will focus on decarbonization, an opportunity for TotalEnergies to reaffirm its ambition, compatible with the Paris and Glasgow Agreement.

To get to net zero by 2050, together with society, TotalEnergies is deploying specific action plans to reduce its emissions and achieve its short and medium-term objectives.

The Company is taking action to:

Reducing our Scope 1 and 2 emissions

In early 2019, TotalEnergies publicly announced its aim to reduce emissions from its operated facilities to less than 40 Mt by 2025 and set itself the target of cutting Scope 1&2 net emissions by at least 40% in 2030 relative to 2015 (including carbon sinks) for its operated activities.

The main route to achieving these objectives is developing emissions reduction projects on our industrial sites, using the best technologies available: improving energy efficiency, reducing flaring, reducing methane emissions, supplying renewable electricity, and using CCS for residual emissions.

Reduce the indirect emissions related to our products (Scope 3)

TotalEnergies has set itself the target that by 2030 its global Scope 3 emissions, linked to the use by its customers of the energy products used, will be below 2015 levels, while over the same period the Company plans to produce and sell 30% more energy products, in particular from growth in sales of electricity and liquified natural gas.
