Reducing direct greenhouse gas emissions must be the primary responsibility of any fossil fuel producer. At TotalEnergies, we are determined to pursue this reduction.
All fossil energy producers must make reducing their direct greenhouse gas emissions a top priority. At TotalEnergies, we pursue this goal with steadfast determination. Across our operated facilities (Scope 1+2), we aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, with an intermediate target to reduce our net greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, compared with 2015 levels. This target is consistent with the roadmap set out in the European Union’s “Fit-for-55” package and the IEA’s 2024 Net Zero Emission scenario.
To make this happen, we are deploying cutting-edge technology to improve energy efficiency across our sites, gradually eliminate methane emissions, stop routine flaring and decarbonize our facilities.
We are also developing the use of low-carbon hydrogen to decarbonize our European refineries, which would reduce their direct CO2 emissions by up to 3 million tons per year by 2030.
In order to meet the energy needs of a growing global population while also minimizing climate change, we provide our customers with increasingly low-carbon products and services, thereby helping them to reduce their emissions and driving the energy transition.
The key indicator of our progress is the lifecycle carbon intensity of the energy products sold, which is the ratio between the lifecycle emissions of our energy products sold and the quantity of energy supplied.
Established in 2022, TotalEnergies OneB2B Solutions assists large companies across 35 industries in fulfilling their decarbonization roadmaps and offers low-carbon solutions tailored to their needs from various segments of the Company, such as renewable electricity, BESS solutions, biogas, biofuels, truck charging solutions, and CCS.
In addition to our emission reduction projects and the initiatives carried out as part of our overall energy efficiency improvement program, we are developing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) to deal with a portion of CO2 emissions generated by our assets.
Although we prioritize emission reduction efforts for the Company, we will begin voluntarily offsetting its residual Scope 1+2 emissions through NBS (Nature Based Solutions) only in 2030, gradually increasing up to 2050.
