#AskPP – Episode 7
Electric mobility, our investments in energies and care for the environment: Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, gives straight answers to the questions from the French people.
TotalEnergies
Christophe: Let me just have a quick think. On the subject of electric cars, what is TotalEnergies' solution for the mobility of tomorrow? Is there a specific solution? Thank you Mr. Chairman.
Patrick Pouyanné: Thank you for your question, Christophe. In regards to electric mobility, what TotalEnergies is doing is first of all to provide the appropriate infrastructure, in other words charge points.
We need to drive forward change by ensuring charge points are available right acrossall over France. Particularly fast charge stations, because what people actually want is to be able to charge their vehicles in under 30 minutes, and ideally in less than quarter of an hour. Drivers can already take a pleasant break at our stations, we created zones so that people can comfortably break their journeys for a little longer. That infrastructure needs to be built.
TotalEnergies has basically adopted a two approach: we’re investing in charge facilities at motorway and expressway service stations, and we’re also building charging hubs in urban areas. We’re currently installing our one-thousandth fast charge station in France to continue expanding our infrastructure. Those are the initiatives we’re rolling out.
Morgane: Hello. My name is Morgane. My question is: why is Total focusing on fossil fuels?
Patrick Pouyanné: Well, Morgane, here at TotalEnergies (that’s our new name) we aren’t prioritising fossil-based energy at all. TotalEnergies produces the energy that you, as customers, currently need. I’m sure you use vehicles to get around. Vehicles such as planes and boats are currently powered by oil.
That being said, we changed our name to TotalEnergies because we are also investing in the energy of the future. TotalEnergies is keen to play a key role in the energy transition, so we’re investing massively in renewable electricity. By 2030, we intend to become one of the top five producers of renewables, i.e. solar and wind power, in the world.
So we’re definitely not prioritising fossil-based energy but focusing on both today’s energy, which is the energy you currently use, and the decarbonised energy of the future, which is so crucial for our planet.
Fabian: Couldn't part of TotalEnergies' profits be used to help protect the environment?
Patrick Pouyanné: That’s a good question, and to be honest, it is precisely what we do. By investing in renewables, we’re directly helping to supply energy that contains less carbon, there by helping protect the planet from climate change. We’re already investing some of our profits in developing low-carbon energy. That is currently at the heart of our strategy.
