TotalEnergies to introduce a 100% renewable fuel at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Patrick Pouyanné, Président-directeur général de TotalEnergies
Ladies and gentlemen, I am delighted to speak to you today even if it is only virtually.
Since 2016, TOTAL has been committed to making a significant move towards new energy solutions in order to fulfil our mission: to bring our customers more affordable, accessible and clean energy.
We took an important step in May, renaming the company TotalEnergies. Energy is changing, and so are we.
The 2020s is a critical decade to achieve our target of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. In this decade we need to transition from supplying current energies such as petrol and gas to providing tomorrow’s energies: renewable electricity, solar, wind, hydrogen or biomass. These will take on more importance in the solutions we offer to our customers.
To achieve this energy transition, we need to innovate, research, develop and invest.
Motorsport has always pushed our company towards innovation, especially in endurance racing. The sport has strived to improve safety, reduce consumption, and more recently implement hybrid technology. Soon we will need to stop using petrol and begin introducing hydrogen or other synthetic fuels.
This is an opportunity for us to develop new technologies for cleaner, more durable, and sustainable mobility.
I am delighted to announce that in 2022, in partnership with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, TotalEnergies will provide the FIA World Endurance Championship with a fuel produced from 100% renewable materials, without a single drop of petrol. As I said, revolution is underway.
Romain Aubry, responsable technique multi-énergies - TotalEnergies
Excellium Racing 100 is the product of 18 months of R&D. We worked closely alongside the ACO and manufacturers and have created a racing fuel which follows the UE directive on renewable energies, without any compromise on performance in extreme racing conditions.
Lisa Serve, responsable développement carburant - TotalEnergies
Excellium Racing 100 is formulated using compounds from biomass, without damaging fields or forests.
Our raw materials come exclusively from the recycling of agricultural waste, mainly from the wine growing process.
We transform this biomass in bioethanol before turning it into biofuel.
Romain Aubry
With this 100% renewable fuel, sustainable development is at the heart of our competition programmes.
Compared to a standard racing fuel, Excellium Racing 100 will produce 60% less greenhouse gases over its life cycle.
Patrick Pouyanné
This is another example of the transformation taking place within TotalEnergies. I gave one instruction to my colleagues: I only want TotalEnergies to be involved in motorsport if it is through the use of new energies.
Thank you for listening.
