Matthieu Rougemont: I’m head of QHSE for TotalEnergies’ renewables activities in France. My mission covers everything that has to do with quality, health, safety, community impact and the environment.

[What are the risks involved in wind power?]

Matthieu Rougemont: Wind turbines concentrate several risks. These include working at height, electricity risk and hydraulic risk, all in a very small space. We recruit specialists to work on our turbines. We also call on our qualified subcontractor partners. All of the teams that climb and work on our turbines are trained in emergency evacuation and ladder rescue.

[What about solar power?]

Matthieu Rougemont: The main risks at solar facilities involve handling and installing the solar panels during the construction phase. There’s also wiring and all the electrical risks that go with photovoltaic installations. The preventive measures we’ve taken to deal with these risks are to have qualified teams, provide training and ensure that operators are certified to perform this type of electrical work.

[What about TotalEnergies & safety culture?]

Matthieu Rougemont: TotalEnergies has considerable experience in safety, so naturally, we capitalize the Company's lessons learned in this area and make the most of the tools TotalEnergies has developed over the years. These include the Stop Card, the Golden Rules, the Our Lives Come First program, Joint Safety Tours, the Safety Greenlight and Life Saving Checks.

[And safety culture in renewables?]

Matthieu Rougemont: Our teams have years of experience in renewable energies. We bring all our technical expertise and risk management capabilities to these new businesses. All of our teams are qualified to perform these functions and manage risks in these different areas.
