In Belgium, TotalEnergies is the market leader in public vehicle charging

In Belgium, TotalEnergies is strengthening its sustainable mobility development activities. With the planned installation of 1,500 electric vehicle charging points in Antwerp and a total of 2,500 in the Flemish region, the company is becoming the market leader in Belgium for public charging.

Antwerp is a city that is very centrally located in Europe,with a lot of traffic passing through it. It is also in the economic heart of Europe.

We see a huge acceleration of the electrification of the car park in Belgium. One out of four new registered vehicles has a battery inside. As the city welcomes an increasing number of electric cars, it has to offer charge points too. Everybody heard of this tender. It was at that time the biggest on the Belgian market for a single city. So we said: OK, let’s deal with it in a smart way. We believe that we need 1,000 to 1,500 chargers in the city.

What was particular is that the tender combined one lot for normal infrastructure and one lot for fast charging infrastructure. What is of course very important is that the company that wins that tender is a company that knows what it means to install chargers, that has the experience, that has the technology and the know-how.

It was for us a milestone that TotalEnergies is serious in operating in this market of public charging infrastructure. Winning a tender is one thing. Executing it is another thing. Fortunately, we could capitalize on our experience in Brussels where we’ve learned a lot.

We give a lot of attention to the operational part and the aftersales part. That’s where TotalEnergies has always been strong: providing customer support, customer proximity. When I see the way we work together today. I can only say that it runs very smoothly.

You see a lot of charging places now. It will be important for making people go for electric cars, for sure. I still get a lot of positive feedback from the community. So it was a good choice. Our collaboration will continue for decades. Who knows, TotalEnergies may also win back the next tender.

We’re happy to announce that we have won a tender in two important regions in Flanders, where we will install 2,200 chargers.By doing so, we will become the market leader in Belgium in the segment of public charging.
