December 5, 2011: Via its active commitment to corporate philanthropy, Total aims to reduce the inequalities inherent in disadvantaged communities, especially with regard to public health. Initiatives in this area focus on two main objectives: combating infectious diseases through research and the training of medial personnel, and supporting children’s health.
As part of this commitment, Total supports training programs for healthcare professionals at all levels in several African countries, particularly through its Françoise Barré-Sinoussi Chair partnership agreement with the Pasteur Institute.
The Group also supports organizations like La Chaîne de l'Espoir, which provide healthcare to underprivileged children.
Total has provided financial support to this French non-profit since 2000, partnering a medical assistance program in Iraq that involves two components: bringing seriously ill Iraqi children to France so that they can receive needed surgery and providing intensive, hands-on training in pediatric and neonatal cardiac surgery to Iraqi doctors at French university hospitals.
Since 2010, the Total Foundation has been financing the organization's 1,000 coeurs pour l’Afrique [A Thousand Hearts for Africa] program, dedicated to training medical personnel and treating 1,000 sick children in West Africa .
Total is now reaffirming its commitment to La Chaîne de l’Espoir, by providing financial support for its 24 jours pour 24 enfants [24 Days for 24 Children] fundraising drive.
