The car driver could have prevented the secondary accident.

By strictly observing stopping distances he could have braked in time to avoid the collision.

On a dry surface, a light vehicle at 50 kmh needs at least 25m to stop.

Trucks need over 40m.

With a few extra meters, the driver could have escaped a collision.

Speed is a leading cause of road deaths.

It is often a cause of accidents, and always an aggravating factor.

Drivers, your safety and the safety of other road users come first!

If you're late, park safely, report your delay and get back on the road.
Always keep to the speed limit and adjust your speed to the road and traffic conditions.
Slow down on risky stretches and always be ready to brake, keeping your foot over the brake pedal. When you are behind another vehicle, stick to safe braking distances.
For light vehicles, that means leaving a two-second gap after the vehicle in front.
For trucks, leave a three-second gap.
