Stains, France – Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Total, and Muriel Pénicaud, French Minister of Labor, laid the cornerstone today in the Paris suburb of Stains for L’Industreet, a tuition-free school for young people ages 18 to 25 who have no previous skills qualification. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2020, L’Industreet will train 400 students each year to work in the industrial trades of the future.
This initiative, led by Total Foundation, is designed to provide an innovative, practical response to the challenge of unemployment among young people at a time when more than 200,000 industrial jobs are unfilled in France. Industry is undergoing profound changes with automation and digitalization, and it offers a wealth of opportunities for young people looking for a career path.
“L’Industreet is a project that means a great deal to us because its objective is simple: a job for each graduate. We want to attract young people who leave school without any skills qualification and career path plans to the industries that are hiring. We’re not doing this for Total, we’re doing it for young people and for society as a whole, because we believe that this is one of the responsibilities of a company like ours,” declared Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Total. “For the past two years, our teams have been working with experts in youth inclusion, employment and education and with the different industries to make sure that L’Industreet meets a real need. We’re backing the school with our high profile, our expertise and our network so it can set the standard in training young people for the industrial trades of tomorrow and help its future students come out with a job.”
“Our priority is to give young people the possibility to access the jobs that employers are trying to fill. The French Act of September 5, 2018 on the freedom to choose one’s professional future removed the roadblocks to achieving this objective. The innovative L’Industreet campus fits in perfectly with this approach,” noted Muriel Pénicaud, French Minister of Labor.
L’Industreet will give young people the opportunity to acquire nationally recognized professional skills certification after 12 to 18 months of training. The program focuses on five areas with high demand for applicants: automated production lines, non-destructive testing and inspection, power distribution terminals, digitalization of industrial facilities and attended robot multi-service maintenance. Its innovative teaching approach will mix classroom and technical courses with immersive work experience. Because the curriculum is individualized, students will be able to enroll throughout the year. At the end of the program, each young graduate should be in a position to find a job in industry, continue their studies or start their own business.
Concept: Tuition-Free Education Open to All
No specific background or diploma is required to attend L’Industreet. The school will give priority to young people who are still searching for a career path. In addition, Total puts an emphasis on training an equal number of men and women to overcome the stubborn stereotypes associated with jobs in industry. Young people from all parts of France will be able to apply starting in March 2020 at www.lindustreet.fr. The Stains campus, conveniently located close to public transportation, will be fully equipped for hands-on learning. Among other things, the facility will include workshops with assembly lines, high-powered computers for modeling industrial units, food services and a student residence. Everything is being taken into account to ensure that L’Industreet opens the door to opportunity for young people interested in a career in industry.
