To achieve its renewable energy objectives, the French government has launched several tenders to develop solar power in the country, creating opportunities that have been seized by Total and its SunPower affiliate.

Following the tender for large-scale solar power plants, SunPower will supply 31% of the awarded projects with solar panels. In all, more than 130 megawatts of high-efficiency SunPower® E-Series solar panels will be installed on 25 ground-mount or carport solar projects. “We are thrilled about this excellent win by our affiliate,” said Philippe Sauquet, President, GRP at Total. “It demonstrates the quality, efficiency and competitiveness of SunPower solar panels.”

Total also won three projects as part of the France-wide tender to develop mid-scale power self‑consumption systems. Here the aim is to experiment with new business models that enable companies to consume the electricity that they generate, at competitive prices. “While the volumes are still modest, we are convinced that there is a big future for decentralized power generation, led by solar energy,” said Sauquet. “Self‑consumption systems are developing rapidly around the world, France has set ambitious targets in the area, and we intend to play an active role.” This achievement was made possible thanks to the collective dedication of the Total Solar and Marketing teams, particularly at Total Energie Gaz, within the new Gas, Renewables & Power business.
