Camelicious, an ambitious and innovative camel dairy farm has teamed up with Total, a major global energy player, to create one of the most unconventional solar energy projects the region has ever seen.

Saeed Juma Bin Subaih: Camelicious started in 2003 with a unique idea of his Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum with 25 camels. And today, we’ve got around 8,000 camels, and this number will increase year by year.

Putting clients first has always been a top priority for Total. The collaboration with Camelicious presented a unique opportunity to develop a tailor-made solution: a ground-mounted solar power plant providing 80% of the farm’s electricity needs.

Gipin Mani: It is a 3.7 megawatt project which has high efficiency solar modules, trackers which track the sun east to west on a daily basis, robotic cleaning which cleans the solar panels on an hourly basis.

The solar farm will save about 3,000 tons of carbon emissions per year, equivalent to over 80,000 trees planted annually. The result: your camel milk ice cream or beauty product has a reduced carbon footprint.

Marin de Montbel: We target industrial and commercial customers who wish to install solar panels on their roofs thus reducing not just their energy bills, but also their carbon footprint. Pretty cool, isn’t it?
