30 seconds to understand the main stages of CO₂ capture and storage in the Northern Lights project

Under the Norwegian government's Longship project, CO₂ is captured from industrial sites, liquefied and temporarily stored on land. Then, under the Northern Lights project, the CO₂ is transported by ship to the receiving terminal, where it is temporarily stored, before being transported by pipeline (330 meters deep and 110 kilometers long) to an offshore storage site. The CO₂ is then permanently stored in a saline aquifer at a depth of 2,600 meters.
