TotalEnergies in Denmark

TotalEnergies has been active in Denmark for over 50 years and is among the country’s leading energy companies producing more than 80% of the oil and 90% of the gas in the Danish North Sea.

TotalEnergies operates the Danish Underground Consortium with a 43.2% share together with partners BlueNord (36.8%) and Nordsøfonden (20%).

In 2025, we spent DKK 5.5 billion in Denmark, working closely with local suppliers whose expertise is critical to safe and reliable production. We are also members of several business organizations and collaborate closely with universities and other institutions, including the Wadden Sea Centre, to support research, knowledge-sharing and biodiversity protection.

Renewables & electricity

Denmark has strong ambitions for renewable energy, with offshore wind playing an important role in the country’s energy transition.

Our activities in Denmark have included offshore wind development, as well as research and innovation focused on the integration of renewable energy technologies. At the DTU-TotalEnergies Excellence Centre for Clean Energy (DTEC) at Risø, TotalEnergies and DTU work together on research into hybrid energy systems combining technologies such as wind, solar and energy storage.

Gas & green gas

The DUC North Sea operations span 15 producing fields, structured around the four main hubs – Tyra, Dan, Halfdan and Gorm. The production facilities are connected by around 800 kilometers of subsea pipelines, with export lines to shore in Denmark and the Netherlands. Oil is transported to Fredericia (DK), and gas is sent to Nybro (DK) and Den Helder (NL).

In 2025, the DUC produced 21.8 million barrels of oil and had a sales gas production of 2.66 billion (standard) m3.

TotalEnergies plays a central role in ensuring a stable, reliable and locally sourced energy supply to Denmark and across Europe. In a context where energy policy is increasingly linked to security policy, production from the Danish North Sea has become more important than ever.

The redeveloped Tyra hub, inaugured in 2025, is a key enabler. With production capacity of up to 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas per year – twice Denmark’s yearly gas consumption, Tyra allows Denmark to regain its position as a net exporter of gas while contributing to European supply. Locally produced gas strengthens security of supply, reduces dependency on imports, and offers a lower emissions footprint compared to imported alternatives. Tyra II has new facilities designed to operate with around 30% lower emissions.

Less carbon

Carbon capture and storage

TotalEnergies is developing CCS in the Danish North Sea under the umbrella of Bifrost – a portfolio of scalable CO2 storage projects. Project Bifrost comprises three offshore CO2 storage development licenses: Dagny, Harald and Inez, all located in the Danish North Sea and covering a total area of 3,168 km2.

Together, they form the foundation for the development of CO2 storage capacity, enabling early deployment and gradual scale-up in line with market demand and infrastructure. The ambition is to build a large scale CO2 storage hub for Denmark and Northern Europe, supporting the decarbonization of hard to abate industries and strengthening the role of the Danish North Sea in Europe’s energy transition.

Understanding and protecting the North Sea

The North Sea is at the core of both our operations and our responsibility. We work closely with research institutions and partners to strengthen knowledge of marine ecosystems and support informed decision-making.

A key milestone is the North Sea Environment Portal, which provides open access to more than 40 years of environmental data, enabling researchers and authorities to better understand long-term developments in the marine environment. This is complemented by our partnership with HUB Ocean, which expands data transparency and connects our datasets with global ocean insights.

Across our operations, continuous environmental monitoring helps us track impacts and improve how we operate – supporting both scientific knowledge and responsible offshore activities.
