Gas & green gas
TotalEnergies has been present in Azerbaijan since 1996, where it owns a 35% stake in the Absheron gas and condensate field and holds a 5% stake in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. The Absheron gas and condensate field is located in the Caspian Sea 100 km south-east of the coast. It is operated by JOCAP (Joint Operating Company of Absheron Petroleum).
The production of the first phase of development started up in early July 2023. This first phase connects a subsea production well to a new gas processing platform, itself linked to SOCAR’s (State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan) existing facilities on Oil Rocks.
It has a production capacity of 4 million cubic meters of gas per day and 12,000 barrels a day of condensate. The gas is sold on the domestic market in Azerbaijan.
Renewables & electricity
In June 2023, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the development of wind and solar projects with a capacity of 500 MW combined with energy storage systems projects for the national electricity grid.

Exploration & Production
We signed a cooperation agreement with SOCAR (State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan) to carry out drone-based methane detection and measurement campaigns. Through this Cooperation Agreement, TotalEnergies and SOCAR reaffirm their commitment to work together to implement best practices for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with a particular focus on methane. In December 2023, the first methane detection campaign was carried out on Absheron facilities on Oil Rocks.
